Dear V05,
You sound like you are on the right track. Beuna “O”-rings are sold in kits at places like NAPA auto parts. Few things you should look for … Foreign material damage to matte surfaces, dry or chemical rot of other “O”-rings, cracking of hose exteriors, dry rot of adapter between motor and pump, water in hydraulic tank. Maybe you can head off the next problem before it happens.

High pressure detent valves usually have chevron packing with an oring dust seal in front of them. If you can find an id tag on the valve, take the info to a tractor/heavy equipment dealer or hydraulic supply store for a seal kit. If no id is available remove the gland nut and packing to match it up at the dealer. It is a pretty simple job. A dental pick or piece of wire bent into a hook is really handy for removing the packing and when you install the new, oil each piece with clean hydraulic oil before you insert it in the bore. If by chance the spool is scratched or chipped you should sand any sharp edges off with emory paper or crocus cloth to prevent it cutting the new packing. On both ends of the packing stack will be a nylon or plastic washer. You need to make sure and get the olds ones out of the bore so you don’t double them up and the gland won’t go back on.

you will need a spring compressor to remove the valve . and to put a new one on . and there is an attachment for a drill to rework the valves but it takes practice . worth learning if you deal with small engines . i have tried just not my thing . but my uncle he can do it like new . . and wen you put in new rings make sure to set the gap off one another . dont line them up .
